Unfortunately, they lost to the Wildcats in the first round. Before being the NCAA Tournament, the team was just another lousy Division II program. The team’s players dreamed of beating a team like Texas. However, the team’s improbable run has been a testament to the program’s potential.

In the past, Abilene Christian has played in the NCAA Division II level. The Wildcats reached the tournament nine times between 1959 and 1999. The team finished 20-22 in the regular season. It won the Southland and reached the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.
